Bio
Nancy Dent was born in Memphis Tennesse, and adopted by Mary and Bill Conner from the Mississippi Children's Home in Jackson when she was three months old. She is a graduate of Jackson Prep and has two degrees in instrumental music (B.M.ed and M.M ed) from Mississippi College. Mrs. Dent has been teaching for more than forty years and has taught in public, private, and parochial schools in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Louisiana. While living in New Orleans, Mrs. Dent found her true passion...teaching literature. She continued to study and gain certification in English and has taught every grade level from 6th grade to Senior AP English.
Mrs. Dent has retired after 26 years in public education from Clinton High School where she taught for 19 wonderful years. She taught English III, English IV, AP English Literature and Language, Speech and Debate, Academic Team Prep, Humanities, Essentials for College English, and Mythology at Clinton High School. Mrs. Dent was the Outstanding Young Educator for New Orleans and was selected as the Clinton High School's Teacher of the Year and the Clinton Public School District's Teacher of the Year. She has also mentored 11 student teachers from Mississippi College during her time at CHS. Mrs. Dent previously taught English at St. Joe from 2001 - 2005 where she mentored a student teacher from Notre Dame University and was named Mentor Teacher of the Year by the Jackson Diocese.
Mrs. Dent is married to Terry Dent, a former professor and Director of Student Success at Mississippi College and a retired public school teacher who currently works at Chick-Fil-A in Clinton. They have one son, Sam, who has a Ph.D. in Applied and Computational Mathematics from Florida State University. Currently, Sam works for ERDC (the Corps of Engineers) in Vicksburg. The Dents have one fur baby, Sissy, a Siamese/Tortie mix cat. In addition they have helped to raise an assortment of nieces, nephews, a German exchange student, and other children who needed a safe place to live and be loved.
Mrs. Dent continues to use her musical talents weekly by playing saxophone in her church orchestra at Morrison Heights Baptist Church. Mr. Dent and she lead a Life Group for young adults just out of college, lead Sunday evening discussion groups for families, and have taken several mission trips within the United States and in Asia. Mrs. Dent is dedicated to the cause of Christ and attempts to lead a life worthy of her Savior.
The Dents are avid travelers. They have been to six of the seven continents. Mrs. Dent's favorite trips were to Scotland, Singapore, Kenya, and Alaska. The Dents plan on traveling more in the future. Mrs. Dent's goal is to spend a summer in Italy studying art history and the Italian language. Mrs. Dent loves to read all genres of literature, loves pop music (Ed Sherren, Hozier, Taylor Swift). Mrs. Dent has two claims to fame. The first is that she fell off of a cruise ship when she was five years old (ask her about it). Secondly, her cousin Grant dated Taylor Swift in high school and she wrote the song "I'd Lie" about him.
